Mark Caner, president of W&S Financial Group Distributors, spoke at the Black Achievers event on June 30th. Over 200 people were gathered and had an opportunity to learn about Western & Southern’s commitment to hiring diverse talent.
Black Achievers recently received a $25,000 grant from the Western & Southern Financial Fund, Western & Southern Financial Group’s charitable foundation, to help fund programming that includes youth mentorship for local high school students ages 13-18 as well as a leadership academy to help young professionals ages 22-35 learn how to navigate their careers.
“Providing mentorship and guidance to young people is critically important to the health of Cincinnati and is a core value of Black Achievers,” said Michael Moore, President and CEO of Black Achievers concerning its mentorship programs.
“We are a company that believes in giving back,” said John F. Barrett, Chairman, President and CEO of Western & Southern and head of its foundation. “One way we do that is to help foster a strong workforce for tomorrow. This means forging new relationships with organizations like Black Achievers and leveraging existing ones to benefit the community and make a broader impact.”
Black Achievers is also focused on giving its members access to career opportunities in a variety of fields. “Black professionals represent a small percentage of employees in the insurance industry,” said Moore. “This makes our relationship with Western & Southern so powerful. It gives our members access to career opportunities in a field that can help them build generational wealth for their families.”
